Last night was the robotics team’s first match of the season with last week being canceled due to weather. The students were brimming with excitement (and maybe a bit of nerves) to see how well their robots would perform. Both teams did well and each team had members who were already coming up with ideas on how to improve their design.
Our area has seen tremendous growth in the robotics league. There are now 32 teams and last season we had 13! This is amazing. It is really great to see all of the interest in a new extracurricular activity and I am happy to get to experience it first hand.
Robotics Club Match
The matches were very fast paced as usual. With two matches running at once now it is even more challenging to make sure each team is on the correct field and ready to compete. There could be some improvement in the software that displays upcoming matches. Maybe we can come up with some sort of LED board that shows who should be on the field and who is “on deck.”
Both teams had a few hiccups (controller drops, motors not working, robot not turned on) similar to last season. It will be exciting to see things once the students are comfortable again and used to competing in such a crowd. Overall I was very pleased with not only their performance but also the ideas several of the students were already discussing.
Black Mambas (team 3013) – overall rank of 14. Total league points 44.
Winners (team 3014) – overall rank of 7. Total league points 57.
Thank you to all the parents who helped keep track of kids and make sure we were ready for matches. It is definitely an interesting space we are operating in now with the large crowd.
